"350,000 Global Sales Target by 2030"
The Genesis GV80, a large sports utility vehicle (SUV), has surpassed cumulative sales of 100,000 units in the U.S. market five years after its launch.
According to Genesis on September 28, the GV80, the brand's first SUV, has sold a total of 100,446 units in the United States from its market debut in 2020 through last month.
The GV80 attracted significant attention in the U.S. after golfer Tiger Woods survived a rollover accident while driving the vehicle during the Genesis Invitational golf tournament in 2021 with only minor injuries. Following the incident, sales increased, with 17,521 units sold in 2022, 19,697 units in 2023, and 24,301 units in 2024.
From January to August 2025, the GV80 recorded cumulative sales of 17,009 units in the U.S., marking a 20% increase compared to the same period last year (14,416 units). Industry experts generally view this as a significant achievement, especially considering the impact of tariffs.
The proportion of GV80 sales in the U.S. has also steadily increased since 2023, with 40% of the model's global sales-42,489 units-from January to August 2025 coming from the U.S. market.
Genesis has set an annual global sales target of 350,000 units by 2030, including the U.S. market. This is an aggressive goal, representing a 55% increase over this year's projected sales of 225,000 units. A Genesis representative stated, "The GV80, as Genesis’s flagship luxury SUV equipped with advanced convenience and safety features, has achieved cumulative sales of 100,000 units in the U.S., following the success of the GV70."
