This event was organized to eradicate the illegal export of wild plant seeds and to protect Ulleung County's wild plant resources. It reiterated that the illegal export of wild plant seeds poses a fundamental threat to local agriculture. By reading the resolution aloud, both farmers and residents reaffirmed their strong commitment to safeguarding these resources together.
A tasting event was also held to promote the excellence of 'Babam Sweet Pumpkin,' an alternative crop currently being cultivated, which received an enthusiastic response from participants. Babam Sweet Pumpkin is expected to contribute to increasing farm income and strengthening the competitiveness of local agriculture due to its high sugar content and excellent texture.
Chairman Kim Doosoon stated, "Ulleung wild plant seeds are the foundation of our agriculture and a valuable asset to be passed down to future generations. I will take the lead in preventing the illegal export of seeds and protecting local agriculture, as well as fostering alternative crops and increasing local farmers' income."
Governor Namhan-gwon said, "The Ulleung wild plant industry is a valuable asset for our residents and a future growth engine. We will actively participate in preventing the illegal export of wild plant seeds and foster new income crops, including sweet pumpkin, to establish a stable income base for farmers."
