The driver of a vehicle that was stopped on the Incheon Bridge has gone missing, prompting the Coast Guard to launch a search operation.
According to the Incheon Coast Guard on September 25, a report was received at 3:33 a.m. from the Incheon Bridge control room stating that "it appears someone has fallen into the sea."
Upon arriving at the scene, the Coast Guard discovered a vehicle stopped on the road near the main tower of the bridge. The Coast Guard believes the driver fell into the sea and has deployed three patrol vessels to search the surrounding waters.
On September 9 and 22, two separate incidents occurred in which drivers in their 30s stopped their vehicles on the Incheon Bridge and then fell into the sea, resulting in their deaths. Following a series of such incidents, 1,500 plastic drums were installed along the shoulder of the bridge in November 2022 to prevent vehicles from stopping. However, all of them were removed last month to facilitate emergency response.
