KOSPI Opens Higher, Then Turns Lower

On September 24, both the KOSPI and KOSDAQ markets began the trading session with declines. This appears to be a pause for breath, influenced by a correction in the New York stock market the previous day.

As of 9:07 a.m. on this day, the KOSPI was down 0.09% from the previous trading day, standing at 3,483.22. The index initially opened at 3,492.03, up 0.17% from the previous session, but soon turned downward. Individual investors are leading the decline by net selling 37.5 billion won. Meanwhile, foreign investors and institutional investors are net buying 35 billion won and 4.3 billion won, respectively.


By sector, the majority are showing declines. Securities (-1.38%), food, beverage & tobacco (-1.00%), textiles & apparel (-0.94%), medical & precision instruments (-0.84%), insurance (-0.81%), chemicals (-0.64%), entertainment & culture (-0.63%), pharmaceuticals (-0.51%), electricity & gas (-0.46%), and finance (-0.35%) are all falling in that order. On the other hand, machinery & equipment (0.65%), transportation equipment & parts (0.59%), metals (0.18%), and telecommunications (0.37%) are on the rise.


Among the top market cap stocks, Samsung Electronics (-0.24%), LG Energy Solution (-0.84%), Hyundai Motor (-0.23%), HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (-0.30%), and Celltrion (-1.52%) are declining. In contrast, SK Hynix (0.14%), Samsung Biologics (0.29%), Hanwha Aerospace (3.29%), KB Financial Group (0.52%), and Kia (0.29%) are rising.


At the same time, the KOSDAQ was down 0.38% from the previous session, recording 868.90. The index started trading at 870.54, down 0.19% from the previous day, and has slipped slightly further. Foreign and institutional investors are leading the decline by net selling 13 billion won and 1.4 billion won, respectively, while individual investors are net buying 16.2 billion won.


By sector, textiles & apparel (-1.49%), medical & precision instruments (-1.31%), pharmaceuticals (-1.08%), entertainment & culture (-0.69%), distribution (-0.52%), machinery & equipment (-0.39%), manufacturing (-0.36%), construction (-0.35%), and finance (-0.34%) are declining. Meanwhile, metals (1.61%), telecommunications (1.35%), publishing & media replication (0.79%), transportation equipment & parts (-0.26%), chemicals (0.12%), non-metals (0.08%), electrical & electronics (0.06%), and paper & wood (0.03%) are showing gains.


Among the top 10 KOSDAQ stocks by market capitalization, EcoPro BM (-0.17%), Peptron (-4.06%), EcoPro (-0.20%), Samchundang Pharm (-3.49%), Rainbow Robotics (-1.95%), and ABL Bio (-1.95%) are declining, while PharmaResearch (0.17%), LIG ChemBio (0.31%), and HLB (0.13%) are on the rise.
