Volvo Group Korea Completes Solar Facility at Changwon Plant... Accelerates RE100 Transition

Largest In-House Solar Facility Within the Group
Annual Production of 5.8 GWh Covers Part of Power Needs

Volvo Group Korea (Volvo Construction Equipment Korea) announced on the 23rd that it has completed the construction of a large-scale solar power generation facility at its Changwon plant. This facility is the largest in-house solar power installation within the group and is considered an example of the RE100 transition movement in the domestic manufacturing industry expanding into the construction equipment sector.

The solar facility, installed on the rooftops of 13 buildings covering 15,556 square meters, can generate up to 5.8 GWh of electricity annually. The Changwon plant uses a portion of this power for its own operations, while any shortfall is supplemented through power purchase agreements (PPA) with external sources.

Volvo Group Korea plans to raise its renewable energy usage rate to 16% this year, 88% by 2028, and achieve 100% by 2029. Through these efforts, the company expects to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 21,000 tons annually.

The plant has introduced a Factory Energy Management System (FEMS) that monitors electricity consumption for each facility in real time. Another notable feature is the self-consumption solar system, which prioritizes the use of self-generated power and allows any surplus electricity to be sold on the power market.

Hong Seokcheol, CEO of Volvo Group Korea, stated, "The solar facility at the Changwon plant is a practical example of achieving carbon neutrality," adding, "We will continue to pursue sustainable manufacturing innovation alongside our RE100 commitment."
