Gangwon Province Upgrades Safety Management Methods for Enhanced Protection
Integrated Management System Utilized... Reinforced Safety Network Through Collaboration with Specialized Institutions
Establishing a Gangwon Tourism Brand Where Both Residents and Tourists Can Feel Secure
Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Governor Kim Jin-tae) announced on September 23 that it will become the first in the nation to fully implement a 'Strengthened Safety Management Plan for Railway Facilities' targeting 31 cable cars, ski lifts, monorails, and other railway facilities within the province.
This initiative goes beyond simple inspections and focuses on enhancing 'safety reliability' so that anyone visiting Gangwon can use these facilities with confidence.
The main components include: △ improvement of the safety management system △ strengthened inspections and real-time management △ establishment of a collaborative system with on-site personnel.
First, the province will integrate the management of railway facility operations at the provincial level, establish a 'Safety Management Implementation Plan,' and systematically conduct inspections and evaluations throughout the year.
In addition to statutory inspections, the province will carry out its own special inspections and conduct emergency checks when seasonal weather advisories are issued.
Furthermore, by utilizing the Comprehensive Railway Facility Information Management System (Korea Transportation Safety Authority), the province will continuously monitor on-site operations and prepare a joint response manual for unexpected situations such as power outages, strong winds, or heavy snowfall.
In addition, a safety management council consisting of the province, cities and counties, and business operators will be operated regularly. Through training and workshops for relevant personnel, practical capabilities will be strengthened, and cooperation with specialized institutions such as the Korea Transportation Safety Authority will be gradually expanded.
Kim Kwonjong, Director of Tourism for Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, stated, "This strengthened policy is the first in the country to shift responsibility for railway facility safety management from individual cities and counties to the provincial level. By establishing a foundation for both prevention and swift response, we aim to enhance the reliability of railway facility operations and contribute to the development of the local tourism industry."
