Focusing on a "People-Centered City of Happiness"
Discussion of Various Policies and Initiatives
On September 22, Pyeongchang County in Gangwon Province held a policy briefing for the 2026 county administration at the main conference room of the Pyeongchang County Agricultural Technology Center, presided over by County Governor Sim Jaeguk.
The briefing was attended by directors of bureaus, divisions, and offices, as well as heads of each town and township. Various policies and initiatives were discussed, focusing on the county’s core principle of being a “people-centered city of happiness.”
Key initiatives included: ▲ Operation of a substitute workforce bank ▲ Establishment of a Pyeongchang-style online education platform ▲ Expanded support for families of veterans ▲ Expansion of integrated child care facilities to all towns and townships ▲ Revitalization of the local economy through sports industry infrastructure ▲ Designation and support for new alley-type shopping districts ▲ Designation as a youth-friendly city ▲ All-out response to national plans for social overhead capital (SOC) ▲ Pilot operation of forest healing travel “Run Trip” ▲ Operation of a Pyeongchang-style primary care physician model ▲ Advancement of smart digital health management ▲ Expansion of half-price agricultural material support.
These initiatives are specifically designed to respond to rapidly changing policy environments, secure future growth engines for Pyeongchang County, and, above all, improve the quality of life in ways that residents can truly experience.
Pyeongchang County plans to comprehensively review the feasibility and effectiveness of these initiatives and reflect them in the original 2026 budget. The county will also strengthen collaboration by sharing project plans among departments, reduce resource waste through project plan adjustments, and enhance efficiency. Efforts will also be made to secure national and provincial funding and to link with competitive public projects.
County Governor Sim Jaeguk stated, “The major initiatives reported today for 2026 serve as a preliminary blueprint for the future of Pyeongchang County. They have been prepared across various sectors such as care, education, agriculture, tourism, and culture, so that all generations can enjoy a happy life. I urge that the budget be efficiently allocated to make a tangible contribution to improving the quality of life for our residents.”
Through this policy briefing, Pyeongchang County is accelerating the discovery and implementation of policies for future generations, preparing for a new leap toward sustainable development and the happiness of its residents.
