"Get Chuseok Train Tickets at 50% Off" Target These Dates... KORAIL Launches 'Special Discount' After Booking Chaos Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) is launching a large-scale discount promotion and refund event to celebrate the Chuseok holiday.

On September 19, KORAIL announced that for this year's Chuseok, it will expand the holiday discounts, previously available only on some KTX trains, to general trains such as Saemaeul and Mugunghwa, and will increase the discount rate to 50% with its "Chuseok Special Discount Product." This discount will be available exclusively to KORAIL membership members on a first-come, first-served basis from 10 a.m. on September 26 until midnight on October 2.

This discount will be valid for a total of 10 days, excluding Chuseok day (October 6), from October 2 to 5 and from October 7 to 12. It will mainly apply to reverse homecoming routes where seat availability is expected, and the lowest fare sections are excluded from the discount.

Tickets can be purchased through the KORAIL website and the mobile app "KORAIL Talk," with a maximum of 12 tickets per person. Tickets can also be purchased as gifts for family or friends. Purchased tickets can be sent via text message or KakaoTalk.

Additionally, during the Chuseok holiday period, KORAIL will hold a "Chuseok Ticket Payment Payback Event" for customers who purchase tickets using one of five designated payment methods (KakaoPay, Naver Pay, Toss, KB Kookmin Card, Shinhan Card). A total of 52,000 winners will be selected by lottery to receive payback benefits worth up to 140 million won. Detailed information can be found on the official KORAIL website and KORAIL Talk notices.

Lee Minseong, Head of Customer Marketing, stated, "We are offering a variety of benefits, such as special discount products and payment payback events, to help reduce the burden of holiday travel expenses for the public and to promote domestic travel during the holiday period. We kindly ask for your active participation." He added, "We sincerely apologize once again to everyone who experienced inconvenience due to the reservation access delays on September 17, and we will promptly implement system improvements such as server expansion to prevent similar issues from occurring again."

Previously, on the morning of September 17, when Chuseok holiday train ticket reservations began, KORAIL's app and website were paralyzed for a while due to a surge in reservation traffic, causing widespread complaints among users. Reservations for the Gyeongbu, Gyeongjeon, and Donghae lines, which started at 7 a.m., experienced access delays for over three hours, and some users saw their queue numbers exceed one million.

The reservation system gradually returned to normal in the afternoon, but most popular routes were already sold out. KORAIL urgently extended the reservation deadline from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and explained, "It appears that a temporary disruption occurred due to a surge in traffic characteristic of the holiday period."
