Survey on "Perceptions of Romance and Dating Between Koreans and Japanese in Their 20s and 30s"
"Reflects How Young People in Both Countries View Each Other"
It was found that Korean men and Japanese women are highly willing to meet each other, while Korean women and Japanese men tend to be more cautious.
Enrise, the operator of the social discovery service "Wippy," released the results of a survey on perceptions of romantic relationships and meetings between people in their 20s and 30s from Korea and Japan on September 20. The survey was conducted from September 12 to 17 among 10,000 members in their 20s and 30s from both countries.
According to the survey, 85% of Korean men said they were proactive about meeting Japanese women, and 96.9% expressed a strong willingness to actually meet them. Additionally, 91.3% responded positively toward Japanese culture. Similarly, 80% of Japanese women said they wanted to meet Korean men, with 83.9% expressing a willingness to actually do so.

On the other hand, only 58.5% of Korean women responded positively toward Japanese culture, showing a much lower rate. Their willingness to participate in Korea-Japan meetings remained at 47%. While 72.8% expressed a willingness to actually meet, 22.4% answered "not sure yet," a figure much higher than that of men (2.5%). Japanese men also showed a lower positive response rate at 70.2% compared to Japanese women.
Regarding the potential for developing relationships, more than 70% of both Korean men and Japanese women said that relationships could progress from friends to romantic partners, with 25.1% and 9% respectively considering marriage. Among Korean women, 72.3% were positive about the possibility of becoming romantic partners, but only 3.5% considered marriage, marking the lowest rate. For Japanese men, 58.4% saw the possibility of becoming romantic partners, but 24.7% said they would prefer to remain just friends.
There were also differences in the images held of each other. Korean men described Japanese women as "attentive and considerate" (62.2%) and "calm and gentle" (40.8%). However, 43.7% of Korean women said that "no particular image comes to mind" regarding Japanese men. Japanese women described Korean men as "attentive and considerate" (52.6%), while Japanese men described Korean women as "stylish and attractive in appearance" (64.9%).
An Enrise representative stated, "This survey is not just about favorability, but also shows what the 2030 generation in both countries expects from and perceives about each other."
Wippy is a social discovery service launched in 2017 and expanded into Japan in September last year.
