Yongin Mayor Lee Sangil: "Active Support for Semiconductor Material, Parts, and Equipment Companies Seeking to Relocate"

Lee Sangil, mayor of Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, has pledged active support for material, parts, and equipment companies to strengthen the local semiconductor ecosystem.

Mayor Lee expressed this stance at the "2025 Yongin Semiconductor Conference" held at the Yongin Media Center on the 18th.

Jointly hosted by the city and the Yongin Institute for Policy Studies, this event was organized to share the city’s vision of becoming a global hub for the semiconductor industry. Approximately 200 people attended, including representatives from semiconductor industry associations and companies, experts, university professors, and citizens.

Mayor Lee stated, "To enhance the competitiveness of the semiconductor industry, we must proceed with projects with the mindset that time is equivalent to subsidies," adding, "The city will actively support material, parts, and equipment companies that are either already located in Yongin or wish to move in, in order to expand Yongin’s semiconductor ecosystem."

In particular, through his keynote speech, Mayor Lee presented a future blueprint for establishing Yongin as a city centered on the semiconductor industry. He projected that the core pillars of the 'L-shaped Semiconductor Belt'-including Gyeonggi Yongin Platform City, Samsung Electronics Giheung Future Research Complex, the Idong-Namsa Advanced System Semiconductor Cluster National Industrial Complex, and the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster General Industrial Complex-will significantly contribute to job creation and the revitalization of the local economy through the presence of skilled professionals and the influx of related companies.

Mayor Lee also introduced that, in response to population growth driven by the influx of semiconductor companies and talent, the city is focusing on expanding transportation networks such as roads and railways, as well as enhancing infrastructure for education, culture and arts, and community sports, all of which are directly connected to citizens’ daily lives.

In the discussion following his keynote speech, Mayor Lee further explained, "To build a robust semiconductor industry ecosystem, the city is providing support for attracting companies through swift administrative approvals, infrastructure improvements, and the operation of a permanent consultation center." He added, "We are also pursuing policies to attract talent, establishing infrastructure for culture, sports, and leisure, and working with local universities to secure skilled professionals."
