Dong-Eui University of Science Mechanical Engineering Global Team Takes on 'DIVE 2025' Hackathon

Dong-Eui University of Science (President Kim Youngdo) announced on the 18th that the global team "FUSION," consisting of Department of Mechanical Engineering student Lee Dongseok and international students from Myanmar and Vietnam, participated in "DIVE 2025 (2nd Global Data Hackathon)" held last month.

"DIVE 2025" was a data-driven problem-solving competition held at BEXCO over two days from August 23 to 24. A total of 85 teams, including university students, working professionals, and the general public from Korea and abroad, advanced to the finals to compete with industrial innovation ideas using public data and undisclosed corporate data.

The "FUSION" team consisted of four members: first-year mechanical engineering student Lee Dongseok, Dae Wai Naing Oo and Khin Myo Htwe from Myanmar, and Nguyen Huu Quyet from Vietnam. Despite their major in mechanical engineering, they took on the challenge to explore new solutions by combining ICT and data.

The team chose the topic presented by the Busan City Corporation and Public Corporation Public Data Working Council: "Development of a web/app service to support youth employment in the region using recruitment information from Busan's public corporations." Although 15 teams selected the same topic, "FUSION" went beyond simply providing recruitment information and designed a service that emphasizes youth-customized filtering features and fair access to information.

Team leader Lee Dongseok said, "It was an experience where I learned more than the results themselves. Collaborating with multinational teammates from problem definition to service design, I felt both challenges and possibilities. In particular, it was meaningful to propose a perspective that supports the employment journey of all applicants, not just those who are accepted."

Dae Wai Naing Oo also commented, "By learning data analysis methods firsthand, I gained confidence and was greatly motivated by the challenges taken on by various young people. I also learned a lot from the ideas of the winning teams."

Department Chair Kim Kukyong encouraged the students, saying, "This hackathon, which was the first challenge undertaken together by international and domestic students, became an opportunity to develop digital convergence capabilities beyond specialized knowledge."
