On September 18, Yeongju City held a progress report meeting in the main auditorium of City Hall to review the implementation plans and preparation status for the successful hosting of the 2025 Gyeongbuk Yeongju Punggi Ginseng Festival.
The meeting was attended by Yoo Jeonggeun, Acting Mayor of Yeongju, Kim Byeonggi, Chairman of the Yeongju City Council, provincial and city council members, the Chairman and directors of the Yeongju Punggi Ginseng Festival Organizing Committee, officials from the Yeongju Culture and Tourism Foundation, and about 60 other participants. They shared updates on the festival preparations and discussed ways to collaborate.
This year’s festival is notable for being held in conjunction with both the Yeongju Punggi Ginseng Festival and the Yeongju Market Day Agricultural Specialty Festival. Through this collaboration, the city aims to showcase not only Punggi Ginseng but also local agricultural specialties in one place, thereby boosting promotion and sales.
In addition, the meeting focused on practical preparations such as establishing a cooperative system with related organizations, expanding sales of Punggi Ginseng and agricultural specialties, and preparing safety management and traffic measures.
The 2025 Gyeongbuk Yeongju Punggi Ginseng Festival and the Yeongju Market Day Agricultural Specialty Festival will be held for nine days from October 18 to 26 at the Namwoncheon area in Punggi-eup and the Punggi Ginseng Culture Popup Park. During the festival, booths for exhibiting and experiencing Punggi Ginseng and agricultural specialties will be operated, and visitors will be able to purchase high-quality ginseng at affordable prices.
In particular, the “Enjoy the Punggi Ginseng Festival at Half Price” package, in collaboration with Korail, will offer up to 50% off train fares and gift certificates for use in Yeongju. A variety of hands-on programs will also be available, such as the Golden Ginseng Hunt, ginseng cooking, ginseng peeling, and ginseng auctions.
Yoo Jeonggeun, Acting Mayor of Yeongju, stated, “The Punggi Ginseng Festival is a signature local event where visitors can taste and enjoy excellent Punggi Ginseng. Since it is being held together with the Agricultural Specialty Festival, we will do our best to provide citizens and tourists with a rich variety of attractions and foods.”
