Hands-on Experiences Including Barehanded Fish Catching
Wanju County in North Jeolla Province will host the 13th Wild & Local Food Festival over three days from September 26 to 28 at the Gosanjayeon Recreation Forest area.
According to the county on September 17, this year’s festival is being organized under the slogan “Awaken Your Instincts in Wanju! Wild Action! Unstoppable Gourmet Journey!” to offer both fun and flavor.
The festival features a wide range of wild experiences that can be enjoyed in pristine nature, including Little Wafu Tribe, Tree Extreme, Water Roller, barehanded fish catching, and blazing oven grilling. In addition, there will be over 200 different foods made with Wanju’s nine signature specialties and fresh local ingredients.
Another highlight is the Gamja Samgut, a traditional event where potatoes or sweet potatoes are cooked on heated stones, accompanied by vibrant farmers’ music. The festival will also debut a goods pop-up store, offering a variety of merchandise featuring the festival character “Peoltteogi,” as well as products linked to the cultural experience booths, doubling the enjoyment for visitors.
There will also be local events such as a children’s drawing contest and an energetic exercise competition, along with cultural performances by local clubs and artists. Interactive attractions for tourists include a large-scale performance titled “The Wild Rebellion of Garaetteok.”
Excitement is building for spectacular performances by Wanju County’s honorary ambassadors, Kim Heejae, DJ Aster, Skull & Haha, and Hwang Minho & Hwang Minwoo. For more details, visit the festival website or contact the Wild & Local Food Festival Organizing Committee.
County Governor Yoo Heetae stated, “This year’s festival has been prepared with great dedication by local residents, especially for events like the food tasting. I hope everyone will fully experience the charm of Wanju with family and friends, enjoying the food, activities, and performances, and that this festival will become a cherished memory for all.”
