Trump Hints at TikTok Sale Agreement, Says He Will Speak With Xi Jinping on the 19th

On social media: "U.S.-China talks progressing smoothly... will be concluded soon"
"Deal reached on negotiations with a 'certain' company"

U.S. President Donald Trump indicated that negotiations for the sale of TikTok's U.S. operations have been concluded and announced on the 15th that he is scheduled to hold a phone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the 19th (local time).

On this day, President Trump wrote on his self-created social media platform, Truth Social, "The large-scale U.S.-China trade conference being held in Europe has been progressing very smoothly and will soon be concluded," making these remarks.

He added, "Negotiations regarding a 'certain' company that our nation's young people desperately want have also been finalized. They will be very pleased." He continued, "I will speak with President Xi on Friday (the 19th)," emphasizing, "The relationship between our two countries remains very strong."

The United States and China have been holding their fourth high-level trade talks in Madrid, Spain, since the previous day. The 'certain company' President Trump referred to appears to be TikTok. Previously, in April of last year, the U.S. Congress passed the so-called 'TikTok Ban Act,' which requires parent company ByteDance to sell TikTok's U.S. operations to an American company. As the final deadline for the sale approaches on the 17th, the United States announced ahead of this meeting that, along with trade, economic, and national security issues, the TikTok sale would be a major agenda item for discussion.
