Situation Room Established, Emergency Response Initiated
Proactive Measures to Prevent Collapse of Fisheries Industry
On September 15, Wando County in South Jeolla Province announced that it has taken proactive measures to prevent damage to the fisheries industry following the issuance of a red tide advisory by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.
On September 10, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries designated the western South Sea off the coast of South Jeolla Province, including all waters of Wando County, as a newly issued red tide advisory area.

In response, the county has established a red tide response situation room and initiated an emergency work system for relevant staff to prevent the collapse of the fisheries industry due to red tide damage in advance. The county has also completed the process for emergency fish release applications in high-risk areas and established a cooperative system with related agencies. In particular, immediately after the advisory was issued, Wando County urgently deployed the purification carrier vessel "Cheongjeong 12" to block the spread of the red tide at an early stage and minimize damage to fish farms.
"Cheongjeong 12" is a state-of-the-art purification carrier vessel equipped with specialized red tide control equipment. Starting at 2 p.m. on September 10, it has been monitoring the red tide-affected waters near Iljeong Port in Geumil-eup and conducting intensive control operations in areas with dense red tide organism clusters.
A county official stated, "With the risk of red tide outbreaks increasing due to rising sea temperatures and climate change, we will mobilize all available county-level response capabilities to minimize red tide damage."
The official also requested, "Fish farms should manage their operations according to management guidelines, such as adjusting feed supply and checking oxygen supply devices and seawater filtration facilities, and regularly check red tide monitoring information provided by the National Institute of Fisheries Science and the Jeonnam Institute of Marine & Fisheries Science."
The county announced that it will continue to strengthen its preparedness by sharing real-time updates on the red tide situation with fishermen and by organizing red tide control fleets and voluntary response teams in advance.
