"Kuksundang Rice Makgeolli" is made with 100% domestically grown rice and received high marks for its mass appeal, innovation, and taste. With average monthly sales exceeding 1 million bottles and annual sales surpassing 10 billion won, it contributes to the consumption of domestic rice.
Kuksundang Rice Makgeolli was launched in 1996, building on the technology of Kuksundang "Bio Tak," Korea's first canned makgeolli introduced in 1993. Following the release of the canned product, PET bottle versions were also introduced, offering consumers a wider range of choices. In addition, flavored makgeolli products such as "Kuksundang Rice Banana," based on Kuksundang Rice Makgeolli, and collaborative products like "Kuksundang Babambabam" have gained popularity, helping to attract Millennials & Gen Z to the makgeolli market and expand its reach. These products have also contributed to the globalization of Korean traditional liquor and the export of domestic rice through overseas sales.
Kuksundang Rice Makgeolli is brewed at the Hoengseong Brewery in Gangwon Province, located at an altitude of 500 meters, using finely milled rice, pure water drawn from 340 meters underground, and house-cultured nuruk and yeast. The makgeolli undergoes three fermentation stages, resulting in a smooth and clean flavor profile.
