According to Israeli security officials, tens of thousands more people have fled in recent days, bringing the total number of evacuees to 150,000. This is an increase of 50,000 from the 100,000 evacuees mentioned by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on September 7. The total population of Gaza City is estimated to be around 1 million.
The Israeli military announced the previous day that all residents of Gaza City must evacuate to a humanitarian zone established in the Al-Mawasi area in southern Gaza, along the western coastline.
This is the first time Israel has issued a complete evacuation order for Gaza City since the outbreak of the war in October 2023. On this day, Israeli military Arabic spokesperson Avichay Adraee also issued a warning via X (formerly Twitter), stating that the military would strike the Taiba 2 Tower, a high-rise building adjacent to the Gaza City port and southern Rimal.
