The BPA Innovation Digital Workshop, hosted by Busan Port Authority (BPA, President Song Sangkeun) on September 5 at the Busan Port International Exhibition & Convention Center (BPEX), drew significant attention.
Held for the second time this year following last year's event, the Innovation Digital Workshop was organized to enhance artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities across the port industry and public life, and to accelerate digital transformation in the shipping and logistics sector. This reflects the public's growing interest in AI transformation (AX) and the direction of government policy.
Approximately 150 participants, including Busan Port stakeholders and local citizens, attended the event to learn about and experience the latest AI technology trends and practical applications.
The first lecture was delivered by Kim Byungjun, Director of the Korean branch of Amazon Web Services (AWS), the world's leading cloud computing company. He spoke on the topic "Essential AI Knowledge for Survival in the Shipping and Logistics Industry Over the Next Three Years."
Director Kim highlighted the rapid changes expected in the global logistics environment due to AI transformation and emphasized the importance of data-driven management. He introduced a variety of real-world cases where AI is being utilized at ports and in shipping operations.
The second lecture featured 'Paperlogy,' an IT YouTuber with 260,000 subscribers, who shared effective ways to leverage generative AI, including ChatGPT, in both work and daily life. The instructor engaged participants in a Q&A session, providing tailored tips and receiving an enthusiastic response.
Song Sangkeun, President of BPA, stated, "AX is a key task that will determine the future competitiveness of the port and shipping logistics industry," adding, "We will actively implement various programs to strengthen AI capabilities and apply innovative AI technologies to management and the operation of Busan Port."
Starting with this workshop, Busan Port Authority plans to diversify AX programs that are open not only to port workers but also to the general public, and to expand customized projects in collaboration with universities and global IT companies.
