The National Library of Korea announced on September 8 that it will hold the "80th Anniversary Librarian Forum," an educational event aimed at strengthening the capabilities of library staff, at the Venezia Hotel in Yeosu on September 18 and 19.
This event will be conducted as a one-night, two-day residential training program with the participation of over 120 library staff members from across the country. Marking the 80th anniversary of the National Library of Korea this year, the event will serve as an opportunity to reflect on past achievements and discuss the vision for future libraries and the role of librarians.
Main events include special lectures and themed discussions to prepare for the era of artificial intelligence (AI), as well as an awards ceremony for a video content contest. The special lectures feature Professor Choi Jaeboong of Sungkyunkwan University on "Survival Strategies in the Age of AI Sapiens" and astrophotographer Kwon Ocheol on "Stories of Cosmic Dust." For the themed discussion, Professor Lee Sooyoung of Daelim University will participate in a session titled "Imagining the Future Beyond the Boundaries of Libraries." In addition, 14 finalist entries from the video content contest will be screened, followed by on-site voting and an awards ceremony.
Hwang Inho, Director of the Library Human Resource Development Division at the National Library of Korea, stated, "This Librarian Forum will serve as a platform for communication and learning, strengthening the expertise of librarians as they prepare for the libraries of the future."
