National Heritage Administration Showcases K-Heritage Digital Exhibition in Austria

Three Works Unveiled at a Global Digital Festival
"Fusion of Tradition and Cutting-Edge Technology"

The National Heritage Administration announced on September 8 that it showcased Korean national heritage digital content at the Ars Electronica Festival, which concluded on September 7 at the Ars Electronica Center in Linz, Austria.

The Ars Electronica Festival is a globally renowned event for media art and digital culture. Since 1979, artists, researchers, and institutions from around the world have participated annually to explore creative artistic experiments using cutting-edge technology and their social significance.

The National Heritage Administration presented three works under the theme "Creating the Value of K-Heritage with Digital Technology." The works included "From Nature," which expresses the delicate aesthetics of Korean traditional crafts through anamorphic techniques; "Byeolseo Garden," which digitally reconstructs the traditional gardens of Joseon-era scholars in three dimensions (3D); and "Gyeongbokgung - Walking in the King's Garden," which digitally reimagines the representative architecture and gardens of Gyeongbokgung Palace. Anamorphosis is an art technique that uses optical illusions to give viewers a sense of three-dimensionality.

An official from the National Heritage Administration stated, "We provided visitors with an overwhelming visual experience in 'Deep Space,' an ultra-high-resolution immersive space measuring 16 meters by 9 meters." The official added, "This was made possible by the ongoing exchange of national heritage data and technology with the Ars Electronica Center, known as the 'Museum of the Future,' since last year." They also expressed hope that "this will serve as an opportunity to expand the utilization of national heritage both domestically and internationally."
