Kim Jinsik, Director of the Daegu Regional Environmental Office, visited Dokdo Island on September 4 to inspect the current state of ecosystem disruption caused by the invasive house mouse and to review the progress of management projects.


On September 5, he visited Ulleung County Office to exchange opinions on strengthening the collaborative system for the house mouse management project on Dokdo Island and to discuss the direction for next year's project.

The Daegu Regional Environmental Office, in cooperation with Ulleung County, has been continuously carrying out activities such as house mouse capture and monitoring. In particular, as part of this year's project, 80 house mice have been captured in five rounds from July to the present.


An official from the Daegu Regional Environmental Office stated, "House mice began appearing on Dokdo Island around 2008, and recent surveys indicate that approximately 100 to 150 are currently inhabiting the island."


Director Kim Jinsik said, "Continuous house mouse management is necessary to preserve the ecosystem of Dokdo Island," adding, "We will focus on reviewing the effectiveness and areas for improvement in this year's project and build an efficient management system through cooperation with Ulleung County and related organizations."
