The redevelopment project review for Imun 4 District, the final site in the Imun-Hwigyeong Redevelopment Promotion Zone in Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, has received final approval. A residential complex with up to 43 floors and a total of 3,488 units is planned for the site.
On September 5, Seoul City announced that the 8th Integrated Review Committee for Redevelopment Projects had given final approval to the "Imun-Hwigyeong Redevelopment Promotion Zone Imun 4 District Housing Redevelopment Project (Amendment)" following an integrated review covering architecture, landscape, transportation, and parks.
With this decision, Imun 4 District will see the construction of a residential complex consisting of 20 buildings, ranging from five basement levels to 43 above-ground floors, totaling 3,488 units (including 717 rental units), as well as neighborhood living facilities and ancillary welfare facilities. Construction is scheduled to begin in the first half of 2027.
Once completed, this will create a large-scale new town with approximately 14,000 units, when combined with Imun 1 District and Hwigyeong 3 District, which were completed earlier within the promotion zone, and Imun 3 District, which is set to be completed by the end of this year.
The area boasts excellent access to downtown Seoul, being adjacent to Sinimun Station to the north and Hwigyeong Station to the west. The complex will feature a three-dimensional design visible from the Dongbu Expressway, reflecting its location along the Jungnangcheon Stream. The arrangement of building heights will harmonize with surrounding residential complexes, contributing to the improvement of the cityscape.
Additionally, the project is planned as an open residential complex that communicates with local residents, connecting various outdoor spaces and ancillary welfare facilities around public walkways and community streets. Open community facilities such as a local culture center and a regional community center will be included, securing public value for the local community in line with the designation as a special architectural district.
With the integrated review now approved, the city plans to expedite the implementation approval process for the Imun 4 District project and move forward with the construction schedule.
Choi Jinseok, Director of Housing for Seoul City, stated, "With the approval from the integrated review, we will actively support the swift progress of the Imun 4 District project, which will complete the Imun-Hwigyeong Redevelopment Promotion Zone and contribute to the largest housing supply in the northeastern region."
