Strengthening Regional Cooperation in the Asia-Pacific Space Sector
Domestic Companies Showcase AI Satellite Solutions at Official UN Conference
The Space Aviation Agency has taken steps to strengthen its cooperative network with Asia-Pacific countries and to lay the foundation for economic and practical diplomacy in the space sector.
The agency announced that, in partnership with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), it successfully hosted the 29th Intergovernmental Consultative Committee on Regional Space Applications Programme for Sustainable Development (ICC on RESAP) from September 2 to 4 in Seoul.

The ICC on RESAP is an annual intergovernmental consultative committee in the Asia-Pacific region, where participants discuss ways to support policy improvement and capacity building for member states by utilizing space technologies such as satellite imagery. This marks the first time an official UN meeting in the space sector has been held in South Korea, with 15 member countries in attendance, including China, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, and the Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization (APSCO).
During this international conference, participants shared the current status and challenges of utilizing space technology for sustainable development in each country and discussed measures to strengthen regional cooperation.
Notably, the Space Aviation Agency provided domestic companies with the opportunity to participate in a UN international conference. In a special session themed "Leveraging Digital Innovation for Space," five domestic companies, including Hancom InSpace, introduced their artificial intelligence (AI)-based satellite information solutions directly to foreign government representatives.
The Space Aviation Agency assessed that this meeting served as an opportunity to strengthen its cooperative network with Asia-Pacific countries, connect the space technology needs of regional member states with the capabilities of domestic companies, and lay the groundwork for economic and practical diplomacy in the space sector.
Noh Kyungwon, Deputy Administrator of the Space Aviation Agency, stated, "Hosting this meeting in South Korea is part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen space cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region, following the dispatch of a public-private delegation to three Southeast Asian countries in July." He added, "The Space Aviation Agency will continue to lead practical diplomacy in the space sector and expand cooperation for mutual prosperity among nations in collaboration with the private sector."
