Gochang County in North Jeolla Province will hold the 'Obaegol Market' every Saturday from the 6th to November 1st near the Dolmen Museum.
Gochang County will hold the "Obaegol Market" every Saturday near the Dolmen Museum from the 6th to November 1st.
According to the county on September 3rd, the 'Obaegol Market' was launched by the Ecotourism Residents' Social Cooperative as part of a project to foster ecotourism areas. During the World Heritage Festival (October 2nd to 22nd), the market will also operate on Sundays, National Foundation Day, and during the Chuseok holiday, allowing it to welcome even more visitors.
The Obaegol Market is held annually with the participation of residents from the wetland village to promote the Ungok Ramsar Wetland, a national ecotourism site, and to help increase local residents' income by selling locally produced specialties.
The market features a total of 14 booths offering a variety of local agricultural products, processed foods, handmade crafts, and experience programs, providing a wide range of food and activities for visitors to enjoy.
Popular items include sikhye (sweet rice drink), oranda (traditional snack), injeolmi (rice cake), bokbunja (Korean black raspberry) juice, kimchi, dungeunmositip songpyeon (sweet rice cake with mugwort leaves), and dried sweet potato, all carefully prepared by village residents. Fresh seasonal produce, such as newly harvested rice and sweet potatoes, is also among the must-try offerings.
In addition, the market will feature environmental experience programs, handmade crafts, and a flea market, making it a popular destination where visitors can experience ecology, culture, and the environment all in one place.
A county official stated, "The Obaegol Market is more than just a space for sales; it is a living cultural platform where the ecological value of the Ungok Wetland and the lives of local residents come together. We hope that visitors can deeply experience the nature and people of Gochang through local agricultural products, handmade crafts, and environmental experience programs."
