According to Reuters and other outlets, President Trump made these remarks during a radio interview that day, saying, "They will not use military force against the United States."

On the same day, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a summit at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing for the first time in four months, demonstrating the close bond between their two countries. Foreign media have interpreted this as China and Russia taking concrete steps to strengthen their anti-American alliance. President Putin is scheduled to attend the 80th anniversary Victory Day military parade at Tiananmen Square in Beijing on September 3. North Korean State Affairs Commission Chairman Kim Jong Un will also be present at the event.

President Trump expressed his disappointment with President Putin, who has been uncooperative regarding the armistice negotiations that Trump is seeking to lead, saying, "I am very disappointed," and added, "We will do something to help the people (of Ukraine) survive."

Previously, President Trump met with President Putin in Alaska last month and attempted to arrange a bilateral summit between Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. However, President Putin has continued his offensive against Ukraine and has not agreed to the talks.

Meanwhile, President Trump announced to reporters at the White House that day that the U.S. Space Command, currently located in Colorado, will be relocated to Alabama. Colorado and Alabama have competed for years to host the Space Command to boost their local economies. Former President Joe Biden had previously decided to keep the command in Colorado, but President Trump reversed this decision and confirmed the move to Alabama, a move seen as an attempt to erase Biden's legacy. Alabama is a stronghold for the Republican Party, while Colorado is a Democratic stronghold.
