On August 29, Sangrae Cho, the governor of Gokseong County in South Jeolla Province, visited the Gokseong Pear Agricultural Cooperative Corporation in Moksadong-myeon, led by Bokgi Jeong, to encourage the farmers and officials involved in the pear sorting process for export.
According to the county on September 1, Gokseong pears are being actively exported this year to seven countries, starting with New Zealand and including the United States, Australia, France, Thailand, Taiwan, and Canada. On August 21, 6.8 tons were shipped to New Zealand via Busan Port, signaling the start of their global market expansion.
The varieties being exported this time include Wonhwang, Hwanggeum, and Singo. From August 16 to November 15, about 50 people are participating in a systematic sorting process. Notably, the export price per unit has increased compared to last year, raising expectations for higher farm incomes.
At the site, Governor Cho stated, "Gokseong pears are recognized worldwide for their sweetness and quality, so we will actively support the establishment of a stable export base." He added, "We will continue to provide packaging materials, pear bags, and expand distribution infrastructure so that farmers and companies can focus on exports with peace of mind."
Meanwhile, the Gokseong Pear Agricultural Cooperative Corporation was established in 1996 and was designated as an export complex by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs in 2000. Currently, 32 farms are participating in cultivating high-quality pears. The county plans to further expand various administrative and financial support measures to strengthen the competitiveness of export-oriented farms.
