Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Choi Hokwon), will host the ‘2025 Cultural City Expo’ from September 4 to 7, 2025, throughout Yeouido Park, The Hyundai Seoul, and various locations across Yeongdeungpo.
This expo is the largest cultural exchange festival in Korea, where 37 designated cultural cities nationwide will participate to share the achievements and visions of cultural policy. As the chair city for the fifth term of the National Association of Cultural Cities, Yeongdeungpo-gu is organizing the event under the theme ‘Blooming Diversity, Connecting Our City’.
The event will feature an opening ceremony, cultural city promotional booths, forums, and popup platforms, with a wide range of programs centered in Yeouido to help citizens experience the diversity of cultural cities. The opening ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. on September 5 at the Grand Ballroom of Fairmont Seoul, featuring traditional dance, contemporary dance, and a cappella performances, along with commendations for distinguished contributors and a plaque presentation for the ‘2025 Cultural City of the Year’.
From September 4 to 6, the ‘Cultural City Promotional Hall’ will be operated inside a large air dome at Yeouido Culture Square. All 37 cultural cities will set up booths to introduce their key projects and policies, offering hands-on programs for citizen participation. Yeongdeungpo-gu will also operate a separate ‘Chair City Promotional Hall’ to highlight the history and achievements of its local cultural city policies, and on September 4 and 5, the ‘Cultural City Forum’ will be held as well.
At The Hyundai Seoul Event Hall, a variety of popup events will take place from September 5 to 7 under the theme ‘Yard of Colorful Oddity’. Citizens can enjoy interactive content such as quizzes, bouquet-making, and a photo media wall. In addition, various side events including performances, exhibitions, tours, and hands-on activities will be held at Conrad Seoul, Yeongdeungpo Art Square, and the Mullae and Daerim-dong areas.
Detailed schedules can be found on the official websites of the ‘2025 Cultural City Expo’ or ‘Cultural City Yeongdeungpo’. For inquiries, please contact the district’s Department of Culture and Sports.
Choi Hokwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “It is meaningful that cultural cities from across the country will gather in Yeongdeungpo to explore local culture and discuss the values and possibilities of cultural cities together.
