Expanding Cultural Opportunities for Residents and Visitors
Wanju County in North Jeolla Province announced on August 29 that it will operate an exhibition tour program at the Samrye Culture and Arts Village under the theme "How to Enjoy Difficult Exhibitions in a Meaningful Way" until September 21.
This program has been expanded into a regular weekend content project, building on the positive response to the Picasso exhibition-linked tour program held in April.
To assist visitors who may find art museums intimidating, the program offers age-specific activities such as storytelling explanations of artworks tailored to the audience, in-depth activity sheets, and engaging hands-on experiences to spark interest.
The tour is linked to the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art collection exhibition "Vitality, a Scent Like a Mirage," currently being held at Exhibition Hall 1 of the Samrye Culture and Arts Village, and features 30 works by 28 artists from across the country.
A variety of experiential programs are available for different age groups. Families with young children can participate in an action painting drawing class, where they freely express their artistic sensibilities using their whole bodies to explore color.
Families with elementary school children can rewrite the sometimes challenging exhibition descriptions in language that is accessible to children, and then display their own written explanations next to the artworks, allowing them to connect more closely with the exhibition.
Adult visitors can create wax tablets infused with scents after viewing the exhibition, capturing their impressions and stories within their creations.
The program will be led by Kwon Eunhee, CEO of the educational company Thinking Museum, who has 20 years of experience in museum education. She has planned and operated major exhibition-linked educational programs for large-scale exhibitions such as Van Gogh, Chagall, Matisse, and Gauguin at venues including the Hangaram Design Museum at the Seoul Arts Center, Sejong Museum of Art at the Sejong Center, Seoul Museum of Art, and Daejeon Museum of Art.
Seo Jinsun, head of the Cultural History Division, said, "We hope this exhibition tour will be a valuable opportunity to foster exhibition etiquette and humanistic literacy," adding, "We plan to continue expanding cultural opportunities for both local residents and visitors."
Applications for the program can be made through the official channel (Instagram) of Thinking Museum or on the Samrye Culture and Arts Village website. The program will be held a total of seven times on weekends, with a participation fee of 5,000 won per person. For more details, please contact the Samrye Culture and Arts Village.
