‘Sopaeseo’ Meditation Yoga Class
Positive Response to On-site Obesity Experience Program
Yangsan City’s Ungsang Public Health Center in South Gyeongsang Province successfully operated a customized health promotion program for 60 children and adolescents from community child centers during the summer vacation, helping them learn healthy physical and mental lifestyle habits.
This meditation yoga program was planned in collaboration with Sopaeseo (Yangsan City Facilities Management Corporation), focusing on posture correction and mental stability, with a total of 33 participants from three institutions. The nutrition class emphasized the importance of obesity prevention through obesity experience activities and snack-making, with 27 participants from two institutions.
As a result, the satisfaction survey showed a high score of 4.1 out of 5 points.
Participating children responded, “After meditation yoga, my body feels refreshed and I feel like I’m standing straighter” (2nd and 4th grade elementary school students). Children who joined the nutrition class said, “The obesity experience suit was heavy and uncomfortable, and it was hard to move. Now I understand why exercise is important if you gain weight” (4th and 5th grade elementary school students). During the banana milk-making session, one student said, “When I mashed the banana into the milk with a spoon, it tasted less sweet but still delicious. I want to try making it with watermelon at home” (5th grade elementary school student).
As a result, officials from the community child centers expressed high expectations for the expansion of various health promotion programs operated by the centers.
An official from the Yangsan Eastern Healthy Living Support Center said, “We plan to continuously operate a variety of programs to support the healthy growth of children.”
