Stories and AI Empower Children's Creativity
Digital Storytelling and Coding Program Launched in Uiseong County
Uiseong County in Gyeongbuk is introducing a future-oriented educational program that combines reading with cutting-edge technology.
On August 29, the county announced that it will operate the "2025 Story-Based Coding" program every Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Uiseong County Library.
Uiseong County in Gyeongbuk will enhance children's creativity in the second half of 2025 reading culture lectures by utilizing storytelling and AI.
This project was selected for a public contest hosted by the National Library for Children and Young Adults and organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, securing 2 million won in national funding.
Going beyond simple reading education, this program offers an integrated, hands-on learning experience that blends books, coding, and media, providing local children with new opportunities for learning.
◆ Stories from Books, Reimagined through AI and Coding
The program consists of four sessions (10 hours in total). Each session begins with a reading and post-reading activity led by a librarian, followed by reconstructing the story with a coding specialist based on the book’s content.
In particular, the program stands out by using artificial intelligence and virtual platforms to create digital works as the result of post-reading activities, distinguishing it from traditional reading programs.
Through this process, children do more than just read; they transform what they have read into digital stories, developing both creative problem-solving skills and expressive abilities.
◆ Fostering 'Digital Reading Habits' among Local Children
Recently, the reading environment has been rapidly evolving beyond paper books to incorporate media, coding, and AI. In response, Uiseong County aims to provide local children with equal opportunities for cultural and educational experiences through integrated education based on reading, while nurturing the essential skills needed in the digital age.
Kim Jusu, Governor of Uiseong County, emphasized, "Experiences that connect books, media, and coding will introduce children to the joy of creation, not just learning. Through this program, I hope local children will naturally develop reading habits and grow into creative talents who will lead the future society."
