Health Consultations and Small-Group Training
for Seniors Aged 65 and Over

Gangseo District in Seoul (District Mayor Jin Kyohoon) will operate the “Elderly Longevity Nuri Center,” a customized health promotion service for seniors, until December this year.

The “Longevity Nuri Center” is held at the Banghwa Health Branch (162 Geumnanghwa-ro) and has been established as a venue where local seniors can consult with medical professionals, gain various information, and interact with their neighbors.

As of July this year, the proportion of residents aged 65 or older in Gangseo District exceeded 20% of the total population, officially entering a super-aged society. The district plans to extend the healthy lifespan of seniors and support a vibrant later life through the Longevity Nuri Center.

The programs are largely divided into three categories: regular health consultations with experts, health promotion programs, and small-group customized training. Regular health consultations include basic checkups as well as services for managing chronic diseases and overall health. Professionals such as doctors, nutritionists, exercise specialists, and dentists provide one-on-one consultations, guiding seniors to establish their own management plans.

The health promotion programs cover practical topics closely related to daily life, such as hypertension and diabetes management, and depression and fall prevention. Nurses, exercise specialists, and horticultural therapists serve as instructors, and the programs are held three times a week-every Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday-from September to December. In addition, small groups for activities such as health exercises and knitting are organized, helping to foster bonds among seniors.

Furthermore, the small-group customized training targets seniors at risk of muscle loss or falls. After a muscle strength assessment prior to participation, groups of five are formed according to each individual’s exercise capacity, with a total of eight groups operating, and each group receives two training sessions. The main goal is to achieve tangible muscle strength improvement. Seniors aged 65 or older residing in Gangseo District can participate in this program free of charge.
