Mayor Jeong Gimyeong Reviews Preparations for 'One Year to Islands Expo'

"Formation of Task Force... Mobilizing All Administrative Resources to Build Momentum"

Jeong Gi-myeong, mayor of Yeosu in South Jeolla Province, presided over the 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo issue countermeasure meeting on the 26th. He reviewed the progress of the comprehensive support plan and checked the preparations for the "D-365 Commemoration Event" scheduled for September 5, as well as the related event, the "2025 International Islands Forum."


The meeting, held in the seminar room of the Expo Convention Center, was attended by Mayor Jeong, the deputy mayor of Yeosu, the secretary general and directors of the organizing committee, senior city officials, and other stakeholders. They discussed key issues for the successful hosting of the Islands Expo.

The Islands Expo Support Team and the organizing committee reported on the progress of their initiatives, sharing core tasks such as land transportation measures, maritime tourism (yacht) operation plans, accommodation and food strategies for island regions, preparations for the D-365 Commemoration Event, preparations for the 2025 International Islands Forum, and efforts to designate the "Year of Visiting Islands."


Mayor Jeong emphasized, "We must use the D-365 Commemoration Event as an opportunity to raise national interest and anticipation for the Islands Expo and to create an energetic atmosphere. Let's quickly form and operate a dedicated Islands Expo support task force led by the deputy mayor, and mobilize all administrative resources to establish a foundation for a successful event."


The city plans to continue close cooperation with the organizing committee and is committed to making the 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo a globally recognized event that attracts international attention.
