National Heritage Promotion Agency Selected for "AI Training Data Construction Project"

Public-Private Partnership Led by KBS
Building AI Datasets Specialized for Broadcasting and Video Content

The National Heritage Promotion Agency announced on August 27 that it has been selected for the "Broadcasting and Video Artificial Intelligence (AI) Training Data Construction Project," which is overseen by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Radio Promotion Association.

National Heritage Promotion Agency Selected for "AI Training Data Construction Project"

This project will be led by KBS in collaboration with the National Heritage Promotion Agency, Naver Cloud, Specspace, and KBS Mediatech, forming a public-private partnership. The goal is to systematically build AI data tailored for the broadcasting and media industry in Korea.

The partnership will focus on three core tasks: content understanding, shooting composition recommendations, and 3D generation. The team will establish a demonstration system for practical use in broadcasting by conducting model validation and performance verification of datasets specialized for broadcasting and video content.

To achieve this, a variety of raw broadcast data-including news, entertainment, documentaries, and historical dramas-will be refined to create AI training data that describes video scenes in text. Additionally, data reflecting screen compositions and camera angles used by broadcast directors will be developed. To enable the use of AI in historical or period dramas, 3D data of backgrounds and objects will also be produced and processed.

The data constructed through this project is expected to accelerate AI adoption in Korea's media industry, enabling automation and enhanced realism throughout the entire content production process. By improving production efficiency and reducing production costs, the project aims to lower the barriers to entry for creative work, creating an environment where small production companies and individual creators can easily utilize these resources. Some of the data will be released for free on AI-Hub, making it available for education, research, and experimentation in the media sector.

Shim Jungtaek, head of the data team at the National Heritage Promotion Agency, stated, "The outcomes of this project will become data optimized for AI learning in broadcasting and video production. In the future, we also plan to build 3D data of cultural heritage for use in metaverse or VR museums, thereby enhancing the value of traditional culture."
