Leading Electrification of Construction Equipment Through In-House Battery Pack Production
Doosan Bobcat has established a dedicated organization for the research and development of battery packs, a key component for electrified construction equipment. While the company will source battery cells in collaboration with global partners, it plans to internalize the production of battery packs themselves, aiming to lead the standardization competition.
On August 27, Doosan Bobcat announced the launch of 'eFORCE LAB' at the Indeokwon LDC Biz Tower in Anyang, Gyeonggi Province. The name of the research center combines the initials of Electrification, Energy, and Eco-friendly with 'Force,' signifying its ambition to become a global research and development hub for battery technology in electrified construction equipment. At the launch ceremony held on August 26, key executives including Scott Park, Vice Chairman of Doosan Bobcat, and Hyungwon Park, President of Doosan Bobcat Korea, attended and shared their vision to "define the standard for electrified construction equipment."

The first official research project is the development of the block-type standard battery pack, 'BSUP (Bobcat Standard Unit Pack).' This pack features a structure that allows blocks to be stacked like Lego bricks, enabling capacity expansion tailored to each piece of equipment. The company plans to apply this technology first to forklifts, and then to major equipment such as loaders and excavators.
Since 2023, Doosan Bobcat has been laying the foundation for its battery pack business. In the second half of last year, the company equipped forklifts with its self-developed lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs, shipping over 100 units and verifying their stable performance. In March, Doosan Bobcat formalized a partnership with LG Energy Solution for battery packs for electrified construction equipment. Under this arrangement, LG Energy Solution supplies the cells or modules, and Doosan Bobcat packages and standardizes them into packs suitable for harsh work environments.
Following its acquisition of Doosan Mottrol last year, which enabled the internalization of hydraulic components, Doosan Bobcat is now further internalizing battery packs, moving toward complete vertical integration from internal combustion engines to electrified equipment. Scott Park, Vice Chairman, stated, "The electrification of construction equipment is an inevitable future," adding, "We will develop safe and scalable solutions for challenging worksites and lead the industry standard."
