Urges “Understanding Public Expectations” and Emphasizes “Hwaibudong”

Seoul Mayor Oh Sehun offered advice to Jang Donghyuk, the newly elected leader of the People Power Party, saying, "Now is the time to closely examine what the public truly expects."

On August 26, through a Facebook post, Mayor Oh congratulated Leader Jang and added, "This is a more difficult time than ever for conservatives and for the party."

He stated, "The public has been observing our party with a critical eye from the time of the impeachment crisis until now," and continued, "We must become a party that gives hope to the people who are struggling daily to make ends meet, and a party that young people, who worry about the future, can rely on."

Mayor Oh went on to say, "If we acknowledge our differences and achieve harmony-what is called 'hwaibudong'-then, just as timely rain nurtures all things, we will see the effects of 'siujihwa.' I will also do my utmost to support the People Power Party so that it can move forward solely for the sake of the people's livelihoods."

Jang, who is part of the 'anti-impeachment faction' (opposed to the impeachment of former President Yoon Sukyeol), was elected as party leader after receiving 220,302 votes (50.27%) in the final round of voting at the 6th People Power Party National Convention held at the National Assembly Library on this day. He won by 2,367 more votes than former Minister of Employment and Labor Kim Moonsu, who received 217,935 votes (49.73%).
