In the damages lawsuit filed by former ADOR CEO Min Heejin against malicious commenters, only one out of three defendants was found liable.
On August 26, Judge Yoo Donggyun of the Seoul Western District Court’s Civil Division 3, ruled in favor of Min Heejin in her lawsuit demanding 3 million won in compensation from three individuals, including Defendant A. However, the awarded amount was 300,000 won, not 3 million won.
Defendant A had posted a comment last April, during the management rights dispute between HYBE and Min Heejin, on a related article, stating, "In the end, a foul-mouthed thug."
The court explained, "Even considering that it was an opinion on a news article, it was an insulting and contemptuous personal attack," and added, "As it goes beyond merely expressing an opinion and constitutes an expression of contempt, the defendant is liable to pay damages."
Previously, Min Heejin had filed lawsuits against 11 malicious commenters who left comments on articles about her, but after withdrawing some of the cases, she proceeded with lawsuits against three individuals. Min Heejin argued, "I suffered psychological harm due to the insults and defamation by malicious commenters," and claimed that each person should pay 3 million won in damages.
Earlier, in March, Min Heejin had partially won a damages lawsuit against eight malicious commenters.
