Jang Donghyuk: "Will Join Forces with Right-Wing Citizens to Oppose Ruling Party...Decisive Action Needed Against Disruptors"

Jang Donghyuk Elected as New Leader of People Power Party
Emphasizes Party Unity; Expresses Gratitude to Conservative YouTubers
"Will Honor Promise to Meet Yoon; Will Properly Check Lee Administration"

Jang Donghyuk, the newly elected leader of the People Power Party, stated on the 26th, "The best outcome is for all 107 members of the parliamentary group to unite as one," adding, "A decisive action is needed against those who drive the party toward division."

Immediately after his victory in the final round of the party convention, Jang held a press conference at the National Assembly and said, "If we fail to maintain unity within the parliamentary group, it will be impossible to form alliances with right-wing citizens outside the party."

Jang emphasized, "The only way to fight against the Lee Jaemyung administration is to join forces with right-wing citizens," expressing concern that "if internal strife continues and is tolerated, such alliances will not be sustained."

When asked whether his call for decisive action was directed at the so-called 'pro-impeachment faction,' he replied, "I have never specifically named the pro-impeachment faction," and clarified, "It is about making decisions regarding those who break away from unity, engage in internal attacks, or violate the party line."

He also reaffirmed his commitment to meet with former President Yoon Sukyeol, as promised during the party convention. He stated that unless there are unforeseen circumstances, he intends to fulfill all promises made to party members and the public.

Jang expressed gratitude toward conservative YouTubers, including Jeon Hangil, a former Korean history instructor. He said, "It was not easy to win against Kim Moonsoo, who was a presidential candidate," attributing his victory to "the overwhelming support from party members, which was largely due to many conservative YouTubers unanimously voicing their support for Jang Donghyuk and explaining to party members why he should be chosen."

With the leadership team now complete following his election, Jang also signaled a tough stance against the ruling bloc. He stressed, "If we are to move forward, there is no time to dwell on the past," and added, "We will focus on becoming a party that effectively checks the Lee Jaemyung administration and the ruling party, and proposes policies to improve the lives of the people, concentrating on the path toward the future."

Regarding a possible meeting with Jeong Cheongrae, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, Jang said, "Simply meeting, shaking hands, and sitting at the table does not constitute negotiation," and avoided a direct answer by stating, "For genuine negotiations to take place, a balance of power must be achieved."

Jang was elected as party leader with 50.27% of the vote in the party convention held at the National Assembly Library in Yeouido, Seoul, on this day. His opponent, former Minister of Employment and Labor Kim Moonsoo, received 217,935 votes (49.73%). Although Jang trailed Kim in the public opinion poll, he secured a lead of over 20,000 votes in the party member vote, which carried greater weight.
