White Lion Pair Rescued After 7 Years in Underground Facility Gives Birth to Three Cubs

Dedicated Animal Care Team Hand-Feeding the Cubs
"Not Open to the Public Until Stable Growth"

A pair of male and female white lions, rescued from an underground breeding facility after seven years, have given birth to three cubs. The pair, who were rescued from the underground breeding facility after seven years, safely delivered three cubs.

According to Daegu Spa Valley Nature Park on the 25th, the white lion couple Leo and Lea gave birth to three lion cubs at the park on the 18th. The theme park has organized a dedicated animal care team to provide 24-hour monitoring and nutritional support for the cubs.

Jeon Geunbae, head of the animal care team at Nature Park, said, "Currently, all three lion cubs are being artificially raised, meaning they are being bottle-fed. We have been caring for them around the clock since birth. Since the mother is not caring for the cubs after giving birth, we are doing everything we can to keep them alive."

It has been reported that two of the three cubs are in good health. However, Jeon added, "The third cub was born at about half the size of the others, so we are giving it intensive care." Nature Park does not plan to allow public viewing of the cubs until they are in a stable condition.

Leo and Lea, the white lions who gave birth to the three cubs, were rescued in June last year from an underground breeding facility at a theme park zoo in Suseong District, Daegu. It is known that the two lions had lived in that facility since they were one year old. The breeding facility was separated by glass and was only about 8 square meters (2.5 pyeong) in size.

The zoo at Theme Park A ceased operations in May last year, and afterwards, Leo and Lea were relocated to an outdoor enclosure at Nature Park. The two lions are estimated to be about 9 years old this year.

Leo and Lea also gave birth at Theme Park A in 2022 and 2023, but it was reported that all the cubs died at the time. Regarding this, Nature Park stated, "Once the lion cubs grow up, we will help them recover their social skills so they can interact with other lions. We hope many people will support their healthy growth."
