Kim Dongon, Governor of Cheongyang County in South Chungcheong Province, is leading efforts to strengthen community-based welfare with the philosophy that welfare holds true value only when residents can directly experience its benefits.

Governor Kim, who has implemented various policies to promote public health, has now introduced a new welfare model by expanding customized dietary support for home-based medical benefit recipients.

On August 22, Cheongyang County signed a business agreement with Jeongsan Department Store Mart and Jeongyu Butcher Shop, establishing a customized support system that allows recipients to visit the stores in person and freely choose the food ingredients and side dishes they want, the county announced on August 25.

With this agreement, two additional locations in Jeongsan-myeon have been added to the existing three in Cheongyang-eup, significantly improving convenience for users.

The system has also been improved so that recipients can now select their own items, moving away from the previous method of providing a fixed menu to everyone.

Essential food items such as fresh vegetables and fruits, meat, and ready-to-eat side dishes are included among the supported items, and the county plans to provide meticulous management tailored to each recipient’s health status and living conditions.

Governor Kim stated, "Welfare should not simply be about running a system, but must be administration that truly changes the lives of our residents. The county will continue to expand a customized welfare system that encompasses all aspects of residents' lives, including healthcare, care services, transportation, and housing."

Meanwhile, the home-based medical benefit program is designed to prevent social isolation caused by long-term hospitalization and to help recipients return to daily life after discharge. The county plans to continue working with private resources to improve recipients’ quality of life and create a healthier local community.
