On September 12, the city of Pohang will host the '2025 World Knowledge Forum Pohang' at the POSCO International Center, inviting the world's leading scholars to explore future strategies for the region.
The World Knowledge Forum is an international knowledge festival that shares the insights and expertise of global thought leaders. It is Asia's premier knowledge platform, organized by the Maekyung Media Group.
Since its launch in 2000, the forum has featured over 6,000 speakers and attracted more than 70,000 attendees over the past 25 years. It has addressed pressing global challenges such as AI, the global economy, and climate change, connecting political and economic leaders with academia from around the world.
Following last year's event, this will be the second World Knowledge Forum held in Pohang. Under the theme "New Challenges for Humanity in an Era of Transformation: Pohang's Future Coexisting with AI," the forum is expected to serve as an international stage for Pohang to share its vision of evolving from a steel industry city into a hub for future high-tech industries such as AI and biotechnology.
The keynote speech will be delivered by Ian Horrocks, Professor of Computer Science at the University of Oxford and creator of the Web Ontology Language (OWL). He will present on "The Key to Surpassing the Limits of AI, and What Comes Next," exploring the future potential of artificial intelligence.
In a special session, Jaeho Yeom, Vice Chair of the National AI Committee and President of Taejae University, will engage in a discussion with Jack Cass, former Head of Commercialization Strategy at OpenAI, on the theme of "The Next AI Renaissance." In addition, Craig Lipset, former Head of Clinical Innovation at Pfizer, will present on "Digital Innovation in the Bio-Healthcare Industry."
The final session will feature Hubert Beroche, Professor at Sorbonne University in France, who will provide insights on "Urban Development Strategies through AI+AR," examining how advanced technologies can transform future cities.
Kim Jeongpyo, Director of the Job and Economy Bureau, stated, "As we enter an era of major transformation led by AI and advanced technologies, Pohang is emerging as a global innovation city. I hope this forum will help concretize regional industrial strategies and present new visions to young people and citizens."
This forum is free and open to all citizens. Pre-registration is available on the official website until 5:00 p.m. on September 10.
