Solar and Geothermal Facilities to Be Installed
in 203 Houses and Buildings in Cheoin-gu
Yongin City, Gyeonggi Province, announced on August 22 that it has received the "Excellent" rating in the competition for the "2026 Renewable Energy Convergence Support Project" organized by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
The city expects to secure the highest level of government funding for the project as a result of being selected. Although the government budget has not yet been finalized, the amount of government funding is determined according to the evaluation grade. The city explained that it has received the "Excellent" rating in this project competition for three consecutive years.

Including government funding, the city plans to invest a total budget of 3 billion won to support the installation of renewable energy facilities in 203 houses and buildings in Idong and Namsa-eup, Cheoin-gu, and the Yangji-myeon area. The supported facilities will include solar power generation systems (872 kW), geothermal generation systems (420 kW), and solar thermal collectors (498㎡).
After holding a resident briefing session in January next year, the city plans to sequentially install renewable energy facilities by the end of the year, following a business agreement between resident representatives participating in the project and the consortium of participating companies.
Notably, next year's project will include companies located in industrial complexes as eligible recipients. The city expects this to help promote energy transition among local businesses and enhance industrial competitiveness.
Previously, from 2020 to this year, the city invested a total project budget of 10.4 billion won, including 5.1 billion won in government funding, to support the installation of renewable energy facilities such as 6,272 kW of solar and geothermal generation systems in Cheoin-gu. The annual energy output from these facilities is 1,844 MWh, which is equivalent to replacing 338 toe (tons of oil equivalent) of fossil energy.
Lee Sangil, Mayor of Yongin, stated, "The Renewable Energy Convergence Support Project will serve as an opportunity to address regions vulnerable to energy supply and to realize the value of carbon neutrality." He added, "As the importance of renewable energy continues to grow, we will actively participate in government project competitions to secure funding and further expand these initiatives."
