Ahn Cheolsoo Criticizes Kim Moonsoo's Lack of Awareness of "K-Pop Demon Hunters"
Debate Highlights the Importance of Understanding K-Content Trends for Party Leadership
During the final TV debate for the People Power Party's August 22 leadership election, candidate Kim Moonsoo stated that he was "not familiar" with the Netflix animation K-pop Demon Hunters (Kedeheon). In response, candidate Ahn Cheolsoo criticized him, saying, "As the leader of the main opposition party, you should be aware of it."

On the 19th, at the People Power Party's 6th leadership election candidate debate held at the TV Chosun studio in Jung-gu, Seoul, candidate Ahn asked Kim, "I feel like we've only discussed very serious topics during the TV debates, so I'd like to ask you a lighter question. Have you heard of Kedeheon?"
Kim replied, "Please tell me about it," to which Ahn responded, "The Netflix series called K-pop Demon Hunters is enjoying explosive global popularity. It is a representative example of K-content. Are you not familiar with its content?"
Kim answered, "I'm not really familiar with it," and asked, "Could you introduce it to me?"
Ahn explained, "Kedeheon is about a girl group representing good fighting and defeating a male group representing evil. Even though it's an animation, its soundtrack has become so famous that it reached No. 1 on the Billboard charts. It's a work that has marked an important turning point." He then pointed out, "As the leader of the main opposition party, you should at least be aware of this kind of contemporary trend."
Kim responded, "I hope candidate Ahn will introduce more of these things in the future, and that we can watch them together."
Ahn emphasized, "You need to make more efforts to engage with these kinds of things yourself."
Kedeheon is a Netflix original animation based on K-pop. It depicts a dual world in which members of a popular K-pop girl group also work as demon hunters outside the stage. Within six weeks of its release, Kedeheon set the record for the highest viewership among Netflix original animations. Three tracks from Kedeheon's original soundtrack (OST)-'Golden', 'Your Idol', and 'Soda Pop'-entered the top 10 of the US Billboard Hot 100 main singles chart.
