A fire broke out in an apartment in Ssangmun-dong, Dobong-gu, Seoul, prompting residents to evacuate. The police have brought in an arson suspect for questioning and have launched an investigation.
The Dobong Police Station in Seoul announced on the 19th that they had brought in a man in his 40s, identified as Mr. A, who claimed to have set fire to his own apartment.
According to the police and fire authorities, at around 11:10 p.m. on the 18th, a fire broke out in a residential unit of an apartment in Ssangmun-dong, leading to the evacuation of approximately 170 residents. Three people inhaled smoke and received treatment at the scene.
When the police arrived at the scene, Mr. A was incoherent, alternately claiming that he had started the fire himself or that an acquaintance had done so. The police determined that Mr. A was showing symptoms of delirium and took emergency measures to hospitalize him.
A police official stated, "We plan to proceed with the investigation through future reviews of CCTV footage, forensic examination of the scene, and questioning of Mr. A."
