Gwangjin District in Seoul (Mayor Kim Kyungho) is significantly expanding its support program for youth language and qualification exam fees starting this month. In addition to last year’s support for language exams, national technical qualification exams, and the Korean History Proficiency Test, this year the program has been newly extended to include 97 types of nationally certified private qualification exams.

The newly added exams are officially recognized by the government for the purpose of fostering professional talent, with examples including computerized tax accounting, data analysis, and information technology qualifications. The district explained that it broadened the scope of the program in response to rapidly changing social and technological conditions, as well as requests from young people.

The budget has also been increased. An additional 105 million won has been allocated to the existing 150 million won, expanding the number of beneficiaries from 1,000 last year to 1,700 this year. Eligible applicants are unemployed young people aged 19 to 39 who have been registered residents of Gwangjin District for at least one month. Each individual can receive up to 150,000 won in reimbursement for actual expenses. Applications can be submitted via email or in person from the 1st to the 15th of each month. The district selects recipients on the 25th of each month and deposits the funds directly into their personal bank accounts, giving priority to recipients of the National Basic Livelihood Security Program and those in the lower-income bracket.

The exam fee support program was launched last year, providing approximately 150 million won to young people across the district in its first year. The district emphasized that this initiative is making a tangible contribution to expanding self-development opportunities and enhancing employment competitiveness for young people.

Kim Kyungho, Mayor of Gwangjin District, stated, “We have expanded the exam fee support program so that more young people can benefit from self-development and employment support,” adding, “We will continue to implement policies that provide practical assistance for a happier future for our youth.”
