Ulsan City to Launch Paid Bus Stop Naming Rights Project for 2025

Ulsan City is increasing non-tax revenue for the municipality and generating profits for private businesses by selling naming rights for city bus stops.

The city will recruit bidders for the "2025 Paid Bus Stop Naming Rights Project" from September 15 to 17.

The sale targets 118 bus stops (shelters) equipped in commercial areas with established business districts, including Hakseong-ro, Jungang-ro, Samsan-ro, Hwabong-ro, and Guyeong-ro.

Companies wishing to participate must visit the Ulsan City Bus and Taxi Division in person between 9:00 a.m. on September 15 and 5:00 p.m. on September 17 to submit their bidding documents.

The selection process will be based on the highest bid price for each bus stop, with the final selection made among those who pass the review of the Ulsan City Public Transportation Improvement Committee.

Selected companies will be able to promote their company names for three years through bus stop signs, route maps, shelter names, and on-board bus announcements. The non-tax revenue generated through this process will be reinvested in bus stop sign maintenance and related facilities.

An Ulsan City official stated, "By using the names of bus stops in commercial areas with high foot traffic for advertising, private companies can generate revenue while the city can expect to enhance its finances."

This project began in 2019 as part of a Ulsan City government employee research group and was the first of its kind in the country. It was selected as an exemplary policy at the 2020 Local Finance Best Practices Presentation, earning a Prime Minister’s Institutional Commendation, and ranked third in Ulsan City’s 2021 Active Administration Project Evaluation.

From 2021 to the present, the city has sold naming rights for 19 bus stops, generating a total revenue of 553 million won.
