"Joint Convention Speech and Heavy Rain Considered...
Further Discussions Scheduled Next Week"
The People Power Party has canceled its planned protest visit to the special prosecutor's office, which had been considered in response to the special prosecutor's raid on the party headquarters regarding Kim Keonhee. Instead, the party decided to hold a general assembly of lawmakers on August 18 to continue discussions on countermeasures.
On August 14, Park Sunghoon, chief spokesperson for the People Power Party, met with reporters after an emergency general assembly at the party headquarters in Yeouido and stated, "We have canceled the afternoon visit to the special prosecutor, taking into account both today's joint convention speech event and the forecast of heavy rain."

On the morning of August 13, the special prosecutor sent investigators to the People Power Party's central headquarters and demanded the submission of the party's entire membership list, which includes around five million members. The intention was to cross-check the party membership list with the Unification Church congregation list to investigate suspicions of lobbying by the Unification Church and Geonjin Bopsa. However, as the People Power Party refused to provide the requested data, the investigators withdrew at around 1 a.m. that night.
The party leadership, who had been guarding the headquarters from the evening through the night, held back-to-back emergency response committee and general assembly meetings at the same location on the morning of August 14 to discuss how to respond to the special prosecutor's raid.
Chief spokesperson Park stated, "During the general assembly, lawmakers shared a consensus regarding the unconstitutional overreach by the special prosecutor and the court's excessive issuance of warrants," adding, "We have decided to hold another general assembly next Monday."
Regarding the suspicions related to the Unification Church, the party drew a clear line, saying there are no plans to provide an explanation. Chief spokesperson Park emphasized, "Since the allegations are not based on facts, we have no plans to explain them," and added, "The important point is that demanding the entire list of five million party members under the pretext of verifying whether certain religious individuals have joined the party is an act of tyranny."
