Sacheon's Future Built with Citizens
Five Roundtable Meetings Scheduled from August to December
On August 12, the Sacheon City Government in South Gyeongsang Province announced that it will launch the "The Mayor Listens: Drawing Tomorrow Together with Sacheon's Future+ Citizens" communication project, which will run from August through December.
This project was initiated by Mayor Dongshik Park to not only share key municipal issues with citizens but also to actively listen to voices from all walks of life and reflect them in city administration.
The roundtable meetings will target approximately 290 cultural, arts, civic, social, and volunteer organizations, spanning a wide range of fields including youth, small business owners, culture and the arts, agriculture and fisheries, sports, and volunteerism.
The city will prioritize organizations based on their influence and the feasibility of incorporating their input into policy, and plans to hold up to five sequential roundtable sessions. Each session will involve around 20 to 30 participants per organization.
Main agenda items for the meetings include: participation in the enactment of a special law for the construction and development of an aerospace industry complex city; strategies for utilizing tourism resources in Hallyeohaesang National Park; collecting opinions on the initial 2026 budget formulation; and sharing the achievements of the third year of the 8th popularly elected city administration.
The events will be held in rotation across towns, townships, and districts, and will proceed with participant registration, an introduction to the city's main policy directions, explanations of policies in the aerospace, tourism, and budget sectors, followed by a Q&A and collection of suggestions from each organization.
The city aims to generate changes that citizens can tangibly experience through this communication process and plans to incorporate diverse perspectives from various sectors into future policies and budgets.
Local civic groups have expressed high expectations for the project.
A representative from a cultural and arts organization commented, "There have been few opportunities to directly discuss municipal issues until now, so this roundtable will serve as a genuine opportunity for the city and its citizens to communicate."
Another youth organization leader stated, "Because pressing issues such as youth policy and employment can be delivered directly to the mayor, we hope to see meaningful changes."
Mayor Dongshik Park emphasized, "In line with the principle that citizens are the true owners of city administration, we will prioritize the voices of citizens in every aspect of governance. Through this project, we will realize truly citizen-centered administration and build a better future for Sacheon together."
Through this project, Sacheon City aims to accelerate the establishment of a transparent and trustworthy municipal administration and foster an administrative culture centered on citizen participation and empathy.
