Daewoo E&C Proposes Landscaping Design for Gaepo Reconstruction Complex with French Architect and BYRAN

On August 12, Daewoo E&C announced that it has decided to collaborate with French architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte and the landscape design firm BYRAN to create the landscaping design for the Gaepo Woosung 7th Reconstruction Complex. Daewoo E&C is currently competing with Samsung C&T for the reconstruction project contract for this apartment complex.

Wilmotte has designed landmarks such as the Louvre Museum, the Elysee Palace, and the Louis Vuitton headquarters. Kim Youngmin, a professor at the University of Seoul and Design Director at BYRAN, has previously received the Excellence Award at the Seoul Landscape Awards, participated in the Seoul International Garden Show as a featured garden artist, and won the main prize at the IDEA Design Awards. Professor Kim proposed a design that minimizes above-ground structures and increases the height of piloti columns, creating a layout where the entire complex feels like a single park.

Among the landscaping features is the "Interactive AI Art Zone," a media art installation that analyzes users' actions and sounds. According to the company, this facility aims to integrate art and media using AI technology. The playground has been named "Art Playground," and a lion-shaped play structure is planned. The lion is the symbolic animal of the nearby Joongdong High School. The central park, called "Waterfall Garden," is envisioned to have water flowing down its walls.

The "Secret Garden" will be a garden built under the piloti structure, accessible only to residents of that building. There will also be a semi-indoor exercise space called the "Private Outdoor Gym," and a "Welcome Garden" at the entrance. A Daewoo E&C representative stated, "By harmonizing people and place, every ground-level space will become a park, offering residents a unique lifestyle."
