Jeong Cheongrae: "Prompt Legislation and Policies for Follow-up on Korea-US Trade Negotiations"

High-Level Party-Government Consultation Held

Jeong Cheongrae, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated on the 10th regarding the recently concluded Korea-US trade negotiations, "We will promptly prepare the necessary legislation and policies in the National Assembly to ensure that follow-up measures are implemented without delay."

At the high-level party-government consultation held at the Prime Minister's official residence in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul on this day, Jeong said, "We will thoroughly prepare so that the achievements of the negotiations can be directly linked to the national interest," expressing this commitment. This high-level party-government meeting was the first to be held since Jeong assumed his position.

Jeong also said, "Bipartisan cooperation is essential to improve people's livelihoods and realize the national interest," adding, "With regard to any attempts by the People Power Party to undermine the achievements of the negotiations with unreasonable claims or to hinder follow-up measures through chronic obstruction, we will respond firmly."

He also mentioned the 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit to be held in Gyeongju this October, stating, "We must do our utmost to establish infrastructure and improve systems so that Korea's national stature and capabilities can be showcased to the world," and added, "The National Assembly will also actively support these efforts in all aspects, including legislation and budgeting."

Regarding measures for flood victims, Jeong said, "I hope you will consider providing practical support that enables people to live, including temporary housing solutions such as supplying mobile homes or utilizing closed schools." He continued, "Especially, there is fear and anxiety about rebuilding homes on land that was swept away, and there are real calls for alternative sites. Although it may not be an easy problem to solve, our party will give it much thought, so I ask the relevant ministries to take extraordinary measures on this matter in particular."

Jeong stated, "The Lee Jaemyung administration and the Democratic Party will operate as one united community under the shared values of party member sovereignty and national sovereignty, with the party, government, and presidential office acting as a single heart. As the leader of the ruling party, I will communicate closely with the government and do my utmost not to miss the golden time for legislative reforms that improve people's lives." He added, "Going forward, the party will publicly praise the government for what it does well, and for what it does wrong, we will point it out privately and focus on making improvements."
