Jangwoo Lee, Mayor of Daejeon, Says "I Have Never Met Myung Taegyun" Jangwoo Lee, Mayor of Daejeon

Regarding political broker Myung Taegyun's mention of Jangwoo Lee, Mayor of Daejeon, on his social media account on August 5, Mayor Jangwoo Lee drew a clear line, stating, "I have never met a person named Myung Taegyun."

Mayor Lee also said, "I have never met First Lady Kim Keonhee," and added, "I have never asked anyone for a party nomination during elections. I have gone through three primaries so far, and I consider running in primaries as a basic principle."

On the same day, Myung posted on his Facebook, "First Lady Kim Keonhee told Myung Taegyun something very interesting regarding the nomination of Jangwoo Lee as Mayor of Daejeon," and added, "Looks like the special prosecutor will be busy," in his post.

In response to this post, the Daejeon branch of the Democratic Party of Korea immediately issued a statement, saying, "Mayor Lee must immediately clarify the suspicions regarding the involvement of Yoon Sukyeol and Kim Keonhee in the nomination process," and called on investigative authorities to "conduct a thorough investigation without sanctuary."

The statement continued, "Myung's remarks can be interpreted as indicating that Yoon Sukyeol and Kim Keonhee were involved in Mayor Lee's nomination process," and argued, "Myung's claims go beyond simply raising suspicions and suggest specific circumstances."

In response, the Daejeon branch of the People Power Party criticized, "Is the Democratic Party acting as one with political broker Myung Taegyun?" and added, "They issued a critical statement as if they had been waiting for Myung's post, which is completely unsubstantiated."

They further questioned, "We would like to ask if the Democratic Party now considers Myung Taegyun, who was once labeled a nationwide fraudster even after a special prosecutor investigation, to have suddenly become a political genius who only tells the truth."

Jangwoo Lee, Mayor of Daejeon, stated, "Nothing specific was mentioned, and it was posted in a joking manner (on social media), but he will have to take responsibility later," indicating that he would hold Myung legally accountable.
